Aqua Globes stop it emptying too fast - Aqua Globes

I just wanted to give a little help to some of the people who are having problems with their aqua globe s emptying too quickly. I found a solution online while looking for a way to resolve this. I found a company called plantpal. They do something called Aqua Globe Control Automatic Plant Self Watering Bulb Spikes. It's a small orange plastic cone with a small straw like tube in the center, a wick system at the end of the spike, with a small hole just above the wick, with another small piece of straw inserted into that hole. I took the straw out of the main tube, and the small piece of straw out the small hole near the end of the spike, I covered the small hole with blue tack, just a small amount to cover the tiny hole, make sure there are no air gaps. In place of the straw in the main tube, I put cotton wool, maybe about about 2 inches, 5cm, in depth and packed it quite tightly, this will regulate the flow, the tighter you pack the cotton wool the slower the flow, and the less you pack it the quicker the flow, you need the wick it came with, (or you could do your own I guess), as this is going to be needed to get the water to the soil, and to your plants. I test it first with the globe inserted before I put it into the soil, to make sure I get the flow rate correct for the way I want it. Remember you have to give the cotton wool a little time to get soaked with the water, and then then down to the wick, where it starts to drip, then just wait for the first bubble to appear, then a few more to make sure you have the flow rate you want, then stick the spike with your globe inserted into your soil. I just used my finger to make a hole prior to putting the spike in. Now I've had three of the large globes in a large size container, and another two in another large container just to see how they would work, and wow, they work quite well. You can see the small bubbles come up from time to time, not quickly, you don't want quick bubbles that would mean the flow is too fast, but if you want a fast flow, then quick bubbles are ok. I set mine to an almost drip system in terms of the flow rate. Sometimes there is a small suction noise from one or two of the globes nothing loud or disturbing, just that reassuring sound that it's doing what it's supposed to do. the sound is not on all the globes, but I 'm sure it can be done without the sound if that would be annoying to some people, but as I said you hardly notice it, and it's worth it just to see those bubbles coming up, knowing at last, your plants are not being flooded. Mine have been in now for about three days and they are not even halfway, so I could see it working for a week or two if done the right way. I'm so confident now I've even gotten some mini globes for my smaller plants and they're working like a dream. Well I hope this was helpful to those of you who like your globes, and wish you had a way of making them work on a slow watering system, without the globes emptying too fast. I found a way, and thought I would share it with you. Hope this will be of some help.
